What Do I Desire?

This video goes along with my "Be Happy" post. This video is awesome and is so true! A perpetual cycle of chasing the almighty dollar. If you love what you do then the rest will fall into place. The world is changing and we can't continue the same cycle. Look where it has gotten us now. I'll leave it at that for now because I could go on :)

Be Happy...

Messing around Instagram on last Monday morning, I came across this Helen Keller quote:

"Be happy with what you have while working for what you want. So much has been given to me, I have no time to ponder over that which has been denied."
I always see quotes that I like but for some reason this on really really spoke to me. So much that I have it up on my wall at work. We all have our issues, bad days, etc. But when you sit back and take stock of who you are, what you have and what you have accomplished its like wow. Lord knows I have issues. I've posted about them. Even though things have been rough and I've questioned a lot of things, I am very fortunate and blessed beyond measure.

In Beyonce's recent documentary "Life is But a Dream", there's a part where she talks about becoming her own manager.  The first question she asked herself is "what do you want"? That part stuck with me. It kind of goes with this part of the Helen Keller quote "while working for what you want". I guess you can say I've thought about this in passing. The last "big goal" I had was to get my Masters degree. Which I did get in 2011. Then I focused on my weight loss efforts. I've lost some weight but I've kind slacked off and gained some of it back. And now....crickets. I feel like I'm just going through the motions of life but I don't have the "next thing" I working towards personally or professionally.  In short, I don't know that I want.  There are some personal things going on directly and indirectly that have impacted my current behaviors and feelings. So I guess it is time for me to re-assess some things and get to working on what I want and be happy in the process.

Stay tuned...

February 2013 Top 4.5

Happy February! Sooooo I have more than 3 products this month lol. It was bound to happen. I had the post pretty much done but then remembered a lip product and a quick honorable mention. Here are my top 4.5 favs for the month!

I first heard about The Balm's Meet Matt(e) Nude palette in emilynoel83's video. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. So I ordered it as soon as it was available on their website. I was so pressed that I ordered it on my phone while on the bus back to my hotel during my work trip LOL!!!! I wish I had waited only because it popped up on a Hautelook sale for half the price! I knew it would be on there eventually but not that soon. Oh well. Lesson learned. If you're a matte eyeshadow lover then you will love this palette. It's great for everyday. I'm a big fan of barely there eye looks and this palette is great for that.

While in Florida during my work trip, my coworker and I stumbled into Victoria's Secret. Their end of the year sale was still going up and I picked up four of their Beauty Rush lip glosses for like $2. They are originally $9. These are nice glosses. They are just right when it comes to stickiness and color pay off. They are great for layering with a lipstick or wearing on their own. The only thing I don't like which is minor, is that the color name is on a sticker and not directly on the packaging. I left them on so that I could name them in this post. The glosses I picked up are Uptown Girl, Feeling Rosy, Bare it All and Shocking.

A scent combo that was my go to towards the end of January and into February was Bath & Body Works Coconut Vanilla Shower Gel, Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Butter and Pacifica's Indian Coconut Nectar Perfume. Coconut and Vanilla are two of my favorite scents. I loved the combination of these products together. I also really really liked the body butter. I have more than enough body creams and butters to use up, but when their sale rolls around again I may pick up some more.

The product that bumped this up to the top 4 is the Maybelline Color Whisper in A Plum Prospect. I picked it up at Target but there are popping up in all the drugstores and such. Ok so I love purple/plum/berry toned colors on my lips. This color is gorgeous on. It wears pretty we after eating, drinking and talking. It does sort of stain my lips. I reapply to add some more color and shine during the day. These are very similar to the Revlon Lip Butters. For me personally I like the Lip Butters more so than the Color Whispers. To me the Lip Butters are more moisturizing but the Color Whispers are still nice. I did pick up another Color Whisper in Some Like it Taupe and it's a nude shade. A perfect throw on and go color with any look. I was tempted to get some other colors but I don't think I will. It's not like I'm lacking in lip products. I will say that when I run out of A Plum Prospect, I will get another one.

Honorable mention....so I guess this is top 4.5 favorites lol...my current skincare routine. The combo of products I have been using have been doing a great job for my skin. There have been days here and there that I've gone make up free and haven't tripped over it. I may do a post on it. We shall see.

On to March and we spring forward. Come on Spring!!! \O/

Can We Live?????

I swear in the last maybe 2-3 years or so, I've seen a number of articles, studies, tweets, editorials, etc. about the "state" of black women. The whole relaxed vs. natural "debate" which I am BEYOND sick of. How much we spend within the beauty industry and how it's tied to our "aspirations" to be white. All black women are fat. Black women are the least to get married compared to other races/ethnicities. I could go on but I'll stop here. I'm like where is all this coming from? Or maybe this is talk that has been around for a while and I've chosen to ignore it. Or maybe it didn't "bother" me as much as before. I'm sure some of it is "warranted" but most of turns to ignorant bullshit. And on the flip side I don't see anything on women who tan, get lip and butt injections or try to "kink" their hair. It makes for "interesting" dialogue but I just feel that there are other things that are far more pressing that require our attention. #kanyeshrug

This was typed on the fly. So sorry if it's jumbled or doesn't quite make sense. Until next time good people....

January 2013 Top 3

Happy New Year everyone!

Sooooo for 2013 instead of listing a laundry list of favorites, I've decided to focus on my top 3 products on the month. Let's see how this goes :D

In December I picked up Mally's Favorite Things Volume 2 Collection when it was a Today's Special Value on QVC. I passed on this last year but I was moved to pick this one up *shifty eyes*.  The set comes with 3 shadow sticks, 3 eyeliners, 3 lip glosses and 3 mascaras. It also came with gift bags and tissue paper if you wanted to gift some of the items for Christmas. I did gift one of the mascaras but I kept the rest for myself :D Mally did an awesome job with the selection of the colors for the shadow sticks and lip glosses. I love both the Burnish Violet which for my skin tone is a pretty neutral and Jade in very very pretty. Of the lip glosses my favorite is Raspberry. I think I mentioned the mascara in a favorites post last year. At first I didn't like it but then it grew on me. I've kind of had a love/hate relationship with Mally's eyeliners. The ones in this set are her waterproof ones. I've never tried them before picking up this set. I really like this version of her liners. These ones live up to her "bulletproof" claim on me. So I'm glad I picked this one up and opted for the auto delivery option for another shipment in April.

In December Korres had a Today's Special on HSN called the Ultra Hydration Trio. It was a set that included the Guava shower gel, Guava body butter and Mulberry body butter. I've mentioned the Guava body butter before but the Mulberry is AMAZE BALLS! It smells so good! When it comes to fruity scents I love berry. I'm tempted to pick up the shower gel in Mulberry. We shall see. I also had the option of getting this set on auto delivery. Glad I did since I think this set will be my main body moisturizer and shower gel.

For Christmas a friend of mine gave me a bunch of stuff. One of the items she gave me was a Born Lippy Balm in Passionberry from The Body Shop. I've been using it non-stop on my lips in the evening or on days where I'm bumming it being makeup free. It is very moisturizing, feels good on the lips and I love the scent. I may check it out in Strawberry once I use Passionberry up *shifty eyes*

And there you have it. I thought it would be hard to pick only 3 items but it was easy for this month. I guess you can say I kind of cheated since two of the items were sets. Dah well *shrugs*. On to February!

Some Leopard Action

Just a quick post. I was out and about looking for some items for an upcoming work trip. And of course you can never find stuff when you're actually looking for it. I was in DSW in their clearance section and stumbled upon this bag.

I thought it was too cute and I got it for around $20. I don't have any leopard print bags and I've wanted one but I didn't want to spend a whole lot on it. It's by Kelly & Katie and similar in shape/style to their ostrich bag. Which is also cute but not on sale. Well at least online. I haven't been in DSW in forever. I'm going to take this bag for my work trip. I think it's a good size for me. I can't do really small bags and no one wants to fool with a big big bag while traveling. They had a bunch of cute things out that caught my eye. Both full price and sale items. So take a look if the mood strikes ya.
